Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center...

Celebrating the Will to Work

Mission of WRC:   "Linking lives by assisting individuals in securing employment and overcoming vocational barriers."

In 1958, a group of concerned citizens and public service organizations set out to change the world.  Their goal was simple–to furnish every person who wanted to work, regardless of their limitations, a fair opportunity to earn a living. Almost fifty years later, the results of that fateful decision can be seen and felt throughout the region. Since it began, Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center has made a difference, whether it is seen in the lives of the individuals they train, the bottom lines of the companies they serve or the perceptions they change forever. Through hard work, determination and, in no small part, the dedication of those directly affected, Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center has transformed people. Along the way, and perhaps more importantly, they have also forced us to reexamine our concept of the Will to Work, and how very special it is. They face each new day as they have for nearly five decades, striving to create a better, more tolerant, more accepting environment in which we can all work together. With any luck, we will all see the day where we no longer define a person by what they cannot do, but, instead, by the goals they attain and the heights to which they soar.

Connecting People. Linking Lives.

ABOUT WRC:

Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center, Inc. (WRC) is a non-profit organization governed by a 31 member board of directors.  WRC currently serves a 12 county area in Southeast Alabama, 19 counties in Southwest Georgia and 19 counties in the panhandle of Florida.

WRC plays a vital role in the economic life within the communities served by paying individuals for work performed in an "earn while you learn" training approach.  WRC trains individuals to become employable and assists them in finding jobs within their communities.

WRC also assists individuals who have difficulty maintaining employment, those who are on forms of public assistance such as welfare and those who are employable and underemployed.  This workforce comprise the next level of workers as current workers  move into higher skilled jobs.

Over 200 individuals work daily in the job readiness, job development and community work programs.  As a result of their earnings, over five million dollars are spent annually in the communities in which they live.

With the support of Wiregrass United Way, WRC provides a transportation system to make it possible for those within a fifty mile radius of the Centers in Dothan and Enterprise to participate in the on-site program.
